Core business

Tellus founders—Tania A. Coke (CEO) and Kevin Hsu (CTO)— met during their studies at Stanford and discovered they had a similar experience in caring for an aging family member. Inspired by their personal experiences, they created a novel way to monitor important health information.

Tellus is a non-contact device, using AI and sensors, with no wearables, microphones or video cameras. Its highly impactful algorithms detect falls, sleep and vitals, and send alerts when defined criteria lie outside their acceptable ranges. Tellus has offices in San Francisco and Tokyo. The company performs tests in both countries, and works with eldercare facilities in Japan.

The COVID-19 crisis has particularly impacted the elderly, and the Tellus’ team immediately sprung into action. The Tellus device detects coughing and irregular breathing, some of the initial symptoms of the virus. To help flatten the curve, the respiratory monitoring technology was quickly shared with families, health-care groups and impact-oriented organizations.

About the company

Tellus is a fast-growing health-tech startup with approximately 10 staff members, spread over the San Francisco and Tokyo offices. As an intern you will be working in the San Francisco office in the central neighborhood SOMA.
